Little Italy Living History Walking Tours
The Little Italy Living History Walking Tour is a grassroots collaboration between the Carlentini Omaha Association USA, Inc. and the Nebraska Trailblazers, celebrating the rich heritage of Omaha’s Italian community. Beginning at the Gene Leahy Mall in Downtown Omaha, this guided experience is led by volunteers with firsthand knowledge and deep family ties to the area. Participants explore the legacy of Sicilian immigrants—primarily from Carlentini and Lentini—who arrived at the turn of the 20th century and played a vital role in Omaha’s economic growth. Along the route, guests enjoy authentic Italian food while learning about historic landmarks such as the first boarding units on 10th and Howard Street, the Sons and Daughters of Italy organization, Saint Frances Cabrini Church, and the Santa Lucia Hall, home to the city’s longest-running religious festival. Through stories from second- and third-generation residents, the tour offers a vibrant, personal glimpse into the enduring spirit of Little Italy, showcased each May.
