A Connection Spanning Over a Century
The enduring bond between Carlentini, Sicily, and Omaha, Nebraska, began more than 100 years ago, rooted in the search for opportunity. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, immigrants from Carlentini journeyed to Omaha in pursuit of employment and a better life, laying the foundation for a vibrant and lasting relationship.
For decades, this connection thrived informally, nurtured by shared heritage and mutual respect. In recent years, it culminated in a formal friendship city agreement, solidified by the signing of a Sister City partnership between Mayor Jean Stothert of Omaha and Sindaco Giuseppe Stefio of Carlentini.
This partnership honors the shared history, culture, and aspirations of both communities, fostering opportunities for exchange and collaboration for generations to come.
