In 1895, 21-year-old Giuseppe (Joseph) Salerno left Carlentini, Sicily, with his wife, Rosaria (Sarah) Rotolo, in search of a better life. They settled in Omaha, Nebraska, welcomed by relatives who had arrived before them.
